(Edited Carter Sales Company press release)

The Oklahoma City yearling sale, scheduled for Aug. 24 in Oklahoma, has 113 horses in its catalog, including a close relative to the $2.8-million Storm Cat– Onaga colt that topped the recent Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select yearling auction. The yearling, by Storm Cat’s grandson Lion Heart, is out of a full sister to Onaga, according to the auction’s sales manager, Terri Carter.

Other horses scheduled to be offered during the auction, which is being conducted for the third time, include a Birdstone   filly and yearlings by such sires as Cuvee, Officer, Harlan's Holiday  , and Giacamo.

“We are up 41% on the number of horses offered, and Oklahoma’s continued trend of increased racing purses has dramatically improved the quality of horse offered this third year,” Carter said.

The auction, which will be conducted by the Carter Sales Company, will be held at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds and its theme is “Saratoga in the City.” The sale will start at 5 p.m. (CDT). It will be preceded by a 4 p.m. champagne preview of the horses and a free buffet dinner at 5 p.m. The purchaser of the most expensive horse sold will receive a free trip to Saratoga and free tickets to a Toby Keith concert.
