Sharp Victor Euthanized

Pensioned stallion Sharp Victor was euthanized Aug. 10 because of complications from the infirmities of old age. The 25-year-old son of Sharpen Up resided at Patricia Youngman’s Pepper Oaks Farm near Santa Ynez, Calif., where he had stood most of his career.

A stakes winner at Golden Gate Fields, Sharp Victor is represented by 22 stakes horses and the earners of $7.9 million. His seven stakes winners include graded winners Marvin’s Faith, Now Victory, and Sonja’s Faith. The latter was conceived when Sharp Victor stood in Ireland.

Bred in California by the Malmuth family, Sharp Victor also raced in England. He won or placed in eight of 13 races and earned $94,890. His victory in the 1989 Dandelion Handicap on turf at Golden Gate came for Marvin Malmuth.

Sharp Victor, out of the Sir Ivor mare Elegant Victress, was a half-brother to graded stakes winners Explicit and Flying Victor and to listed stakes winner Vying Victor.
