Kip Deville has been temporarily taken out of training by trainer Rick Dutrow after an eighth-place finish in the Aug. 2 Fourstardave Handicap (gr. IIT) at Saratoga.
Owned by a partnership that includes IEAH Stables, Cohen, Pegasus Holdings Group, and Resolute Group Stables, the 6-year-old gray or roan son of Kipling will be taken to the Ruffian Equine Medical Center at Belmont Park for a nuclear scan to determine if there is a problem.
A winner of four grade I races, including the 2007 NetJets Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. IT), Kip Deville has been off the board in three straight starts since capturing the Feb. 1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap (gr. IT).
“We should know soon enough,” Dutrow said. “We don’t know, but I think something’s there.”
Bred in Oklahoma by Center Hills Farm, Kip Deville owns an overall record of 12-4-2 from 30 starts and earnings of more than $3.3 million.
