The Racing Network Suspends Operations

The Racing Network, which is based at Philadelphia Park, announced Monday it has suspended operations effective immediately. The Racing Network International, an associated company that broadcasts United States racing internationally, remains operational.

In a statement, TRN said that "despite an industry-inclusive approach that simulcast over 90 Thoroughbred, harness, and Greyhound racetracks, the multi-channel, direct-to-home broadcast provider was unable to achieve the subscriber growth necessary to sustain operations."

Details weren't immediately available. Greenwood Racing officials weren't available for comment at Philadelphia Park Monday afternoon.

TRN, which launched two years ago, had four channels available through the DISH Network, and up to seven channels on the TRN Direct home satellite service. TRN integrated up to four simulcast signals on each of its channels,and broadcast about 2,500 live races per week.

"TRN's mission was to provide a home simulcasting platform for all racetracks," the statement said. "TRN hoped to combine local and national racing product within regional shows, developing a compelling regional cable programming approach for the future expansion of account wagering."

TRN did not have a wagering arm, though Greenwood Racing, the parent of Philadelphia Park, operates a successful account wagering system in Pennsylvania.
