A festival to honor Hall of Fame member Secretariat will be held Sept. 25-26 in Bourbon County, Kentucky. The Bourbon County Secretariat Festival Committee not only will honor the 1973 Triple Crown winner, but also Penny Chenery, who raced Secretariat with members of her family, and Verna Lehmann, whose husband, Robert, won the 1970 Kentucky Derby winner with Dust Commander.
“We are looking forward to another great weekend this year honoring Mrs. Verna Lehmann, the Derby winning owner of Dust Commander, as well as Penny Chenery and Secretariat,” said Dell Hancock, co-owner of Claiborne Farm near Paris in Bourbon County. “Claiborne Farm is proud to have been the home of Secretariat and is a sponsor of the second Annual Bourbon County Secretariat Festival and all the activities surrounding the event.”
On Friday, Sept. 25, an honorary dinner for Lehmann will be held at Migdalia’s Restaurant in Paris in 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
