Unbridled Elaine won the Monmouth Oaks as the favorite.
Roger J. Devenport's Unbridled Elaine beat Unrestrained by 3 1/2 lengths Saturday in the $250,000 Monmouth Breeders' Cup Oaks (gr. II) for 3-year-old fillies. Unbridled Elaine, ridden by Eibar Coa, ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:51.02 on a fast track and paid $3.60, $2.60, and $2.10. Unrestrained returned $7.80 and $3, and Indy Glory paid $2.60 to show. The winning exacta combination paid $27.60.
Astrid, Quick Blue, Kain's Prize, and Southern Fiction completed the order of finish.
The David Vance-trained daughter of Unbridled's Song earned $150,000 for the win, her fifth win in seven starts. Prior to her first graded stakes win in the Monmouth Oaks, Unbridled Elaine won the Iowa Oaks and finished fourth in the Acorn Stakes (gr. I). As a juvenile, she won the Pocahontas Stakes at Churchill Downs. Unbridled Elaine was bred in Kentucky by Golden Orb Farm & K. David Schwartz.
"She ran a super race," said Vance. "She was right where she was supposed to be and she went right about her business. We'll nominate her for the (1 1/4-mile) Alabama (gr. I). I know she'll be able to get the distance. She's a nice filly and she's lightly raced; she has a lot going for her." (Chart, Equibase
