Katz Me If You Can finished fourth in Saturday's $50,000 Blue Sparkler Stakes at Monmouth Park with nearly 97 percent of the total show pool wagered on her, causing the highest show pool payoff in the history of the New Jersey track. Timely Affair finished second in the four-horse field and paid $6.80 to place and $79.60 to show, breaking the previous show return record of $70 set in 1976.
Shutup and Dance won the race as the 4-5 favorite, paying $3.60, $3.20, and $28.40 after completing the six furlongs in 1:10.52. Cedar Knolls finished third -- 3 3/4 lengths in front of Katz Me If You Can -- and paid $67.40 to show.
From a total of $165,007 bet in the show pool, $159,258 was wagered on Overbrook Farm's Katz Me If You Can. The D. Wayne Lukas trainee chased the pace from the outside before tiring. (Chart,
