Fasig-Tipton has cataloged 235 horses for its New York-bred preferred yearling sale, which will be held the evenings of Aug. 15 and 16 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The number is up 3.5% from last year’s total of 227.
The results for the 2008 edition of the auction included a gross of $5,439,000 for the 100 horses that sold, which represented declines of 6.7% and 11.5%, respectively, from 2007. The average price of $54,390 was an all-time sale high, and the median price of $45,000 equaled the sale record that had been established in 2005.
Each of this year’s sessions will begin at 7 p.m. (EDT).
There will be no Fasig-Tipton open yearling sale in Saratoga Springs this year. During the 2008 edition of the auction, only 30 horses were sold compared to 73 in 2007. The gross dropped from $523,600 in 2007 to $244,700 in 2008.
