Apprentice jockey Beth Wyard, who was originally diagnosed with a broken left ankle after a training mishap on the morning of July 8, has torn ligaments and will only be out of action for two to three weeks.

Wyard, 23, landed awkwardly after her mount reared up during morning training at Woodbine.

“It’s disappointing that she was misdiagnosed, but it’s good to know Beth won’t be out for long,” said her agent, Tony Esposito. “She’s doing fine and she can’t wait to get back riding.”

The native of Cambridge, Ontario began her riding career last October at Woodbine, finishing second with 24-1 Rich Era in her first race on October 26. Her first win came with 11-1 Chatty Cat on November 19, also at the Toronto oval.
