Mason Rudd, whose horses won 11 stakes in the 1990s, died July 5 at a Louisville hospital. He was 90.

Rudd campaigned four stakes winners alone and in partnership,  including graded stakes winners First and Only and Rare Reason, both of whom he raced alone. Rudd’s last stakes win came in 2004.

Rudd, a World War II Army veteran, owned a heavy construction equipment firm. A leading philanthropist, he contributed to a number of causes, including the University of Louisville.

His survivors include his wife, Peggy; a son, Michael; and a daughter, Betsy.
