Tiznow, trying to regain the form that made him 2000 Horse of the Year, turned in a sizzling five-furlong workout Thursday caught by clockers in 59 1/5. Chris McCarron, injured during a spill in New York last week, nevertheless was aboard the son of Cee's Tizzy for the spin around the Del Mar oval.

Tiznow has not raced since capturing the grade I Santa Anita Handicap in March, due to continuing problems with his back. He is, with fingers crossed, being pointed toward either the grade I Pacific Classic at 10 furlongs Aug. 19 or the grade II Del Mar Breeders' Cup Handicap at a mile Sept. 2.

"He worked very well," stated trainer Jay Robbins. "Chris was very pleased. The colt finished strong and galloped out much stronger than last time. I guess he's fitter than I thought he was. I was going to work him five furlongs next week, but I think I'll go for an easy six furlongs." Robbins said that next work will come Wednesday.
