A 2-year-old out of the Diablo mare Diablo River, Angus Kahn won the $35,250 maiden-special weight race by 4 ¾ lengths. The 7-5 favorite got the five furlongs on the Tapeta Footings all-weather surface in :57.94. Jerry Little’s homebred colt is trained by Eric Reed. He was making his second start. In his debut, April 23 at Keeneland, he ran second, beaten 5 1/2 lengths by Yogaroo.

Grand Reward, by Storm Cat out of the Hall of Famer Serena’s Song (by Rahy), stands at John Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms near Lexington. He stands for $8,500. Stakes-placed in Europe at 2 and 3, Grand Reward won the Oaklawn Handicap (gr. II) as a 4-year-old.
