Miramis takes Turkey's Gazi Derby.

(Edited Turkish Jockey Club report)

Ahmet Kiliccioglu's Miramis, a son of Sri Pekan posted a 1 ½-length victory over Cakilhan in Turkey’s Gazi Derby at 1 ½ miles on June 28. The race was restricted to 3-year-old colts and fillies.

The winner and also the pre-race favorite, Miramis waited patiently and found his way easily from the inside under young jockey Gökhan Kocakaya, who at age 22 became one the youngest jockeys to win the Gazi Derby. Over 40,000 fans at the Veliefendi Racecourse were applauding him and many cheering his name while he was holding the cup with deserved honor.

Top Italian jockey Frankie Dettori rode the filly Chi (by Unaccounted For) in the Derby and no doubt he had his chances to win and take the re-match of 2008 Ýstanbul International Races. However, Chi couldn’t lay down a genuine threat to the winner as she lost her pace in the last 200 meters and stayed on to take the third place.

The winner earned 350,000€  and a breeders’ premium of 87,000€ was paid to the winner.
