Father Time, Times Two

There have been instances over the years with horses bred in different countries having the same name. But not often have the two won on the same day, and in this case, the same race number.

On June 19 in England, Father Time won the fifth race at Royal Ascot. On June 19 in the United States, Father Time won the fifth race at Presque Isle Downs.

The big difference in the two is the level of competition, the English-bred Father Time winning the King Edward VII Stakes (Eng-II) and the American-bred Father Time winning a $25,000 claiming race.

The English-bred Father Time is a 3-year-old colt by Dansili out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Clepsydra. Bred and owned by Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms, he has won two of five starts and has earnings of $184,323. The colt is trained by Henry Cecil.

The American-bred Father Time is a 6-year-old gelding by Gilded Time out of the In Excess mare Estatically. Bred in Kentucky by Carol Lynch and Glen Watson, he races for John Calhoun and Chester Storthz and is trained by Joseph Martin. He has seven wins in 28 starts and has earnings of $127,542.
