Calder Race Course will hold its first-ever "Italian fest," a celebration of Italian music, food, drink and culture Aug. 5 from noon to 5 p.m. The event will feature Italian food, music, and activities. ...Hollywood Park closed its Spring/Summer meet by honoring its top performers. Among those honored by the media were:
Astra,horse of the meet:
Futural, handicap horse;
Bienamado, grass horse;
Gourmet Girl, older filly/mare;
Go Go, sprinter;
Congaree, 3-year-old and 3-year-old male;
Golden Ballet, 3-year-old filly;
Came Home 2-year-old and 2-year-old male;
Georgia's Storm, 2-year-old filly;
Jack Carava, trainer;
Laffit Pincay Jr., jockey; and in a tie
Ricardo Jaime and
Macario Rodriguez, apprentice jockeys.
