Add Payson Stud to the list of farms consigning yearlings to the upcoming Fasig-Tipton New York Select yearling sale at Saratoga, as well as the Keeneland September and the October Fasig-Tipton yearling sale.
Anna Colombo, bloodstock manager for Virginia Kraft Payson's Payson Stud, said yearlings are being sold as a way to more commercialize the Lexington farm. "Just because she is selling all of her yearlings this year doesn't mean she isn't going to continue to race. She will continue to race homebreds and will keep a few yearlings here and there in the future. This is something that has been talked about, and will become an annual event," Colombo said.
Through the years, Payson has kept all homebred yearlings and raced them as 3-year-olds. Payson has bred stakes winners such as Carrielle, L' Carriere, and Milesius.
In total, Payson will offer 18 yearlings, with one sold at Saratoga next month, 15 at Keeneland September and two at Fasig-Tipton in October. The yearlings are by such notable stallions as Seattle Slew, Wild Again, Gulch, Rahy, Dynaformer, Cozzene, and Pleasant Colony, to name a few.
