French-based sire Marchand de Sable has died at Haras de Bernesq at age 19, according to a Racingpost.com report.

Marchand de Sable’s best offspring is European champion Machand d’Or, a five-time group I winner who captured last year’s Darley July Cup (Eng-I) at Newmarket, Prix Maurice de Gheest (Fr-I) at Deauville, and Qatar Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp (Fr-I) at Longchamp. Marchand de Sable is also the sire of grade I winner Commercante, and successful jumpers Andreas and Deflation.

As a racehorse, Marchand de Sable was conditioned during the first part of his career by Elie Lellouche for owner Luigo de Angeli, who campaigned him to victory in the 1992 Criterium de Saint-Cloud (Fr-I). Placing in eight other group events throughout his four-year career, he retired from racing in 1995 with a record of 3-9-2 from 18 starts and earnings of $355,817.

A son of Theatrical, Marchand de Sable stood his entire career at Haras de Bernesq. His 2009 fee was 15,000 Euros (about $21,193).
