The New York Racing Association has announced the appointment of Kevin Gremillion to the newly created position of operations manager at Saratoga Race Course.
In his new role, Gremillion will oversee administrative planning and financial management of the capital project agenda and daily operations at Saratoga.
“We are excited to have Kevin join our team with his broad-based management experience background, particularly in the areas of financial analysis and project and resource management,” said NYRA senior vice president and chief administrative officer John Ryan. “Given our ambitious capital improvement plans for 2009 and beyond, Kevin’s appointment will ensure that NYRA is well positioned for success.”
Gremillion, 40, comes to Saratoga from New York City where he worked as a senior associate for Alvarez and Marsal, a management consulting firm specializing in financial restructuring and crisis management.
Gremillion earned a pair of master’s degrees in accounting and business administration from the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University in New Orleans. Gremillion was attending graduate school in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina struck. During his final year at Tulane, Gremillion worked as a volunteer in the recovery efforts in New Orleans.
After joining Alvarez and Marsal, he assisted contractors and labor groups to rebuild schools and oversaw more than $10 million in construction and school supplies as part of the restoration for the New Orleans Public Schools. Gremillion also helped to coordinate administrative and planning activity between schools in Orleans Parish and the Federal Emergency Management Administration.
“I look forward to joining the highly talented team at NYRA to help manage one of the leading sports and entertainment venues in North America,” said Gremillion. “I plan to put my business background to work to offer some innovative ideas to improve operations at Saratoga Race Course and to complement the outstanding efforts of Charlie Wheeler and all those at NYRA who have served as distinguished stewards of this historic race track.”
A graduate of the University of North Florida, Gremillion also served in the United States Navy for six years aboard the USS Carl Vinson where he supervised maintenance for the repair and support of carrier shipboard weapons elevators.
Gremillion, who now resides in Saratoga Springs, is a native of New Orleans.
