Juddmonte Farms' outstanding mare Ventura, favored against males in the $250,000 Shoemaker Mile (gr. IT) at Hollywood Park May 25, was scratched by trainer Bobby Frankel on the morning of the race due to a "foot problem," according to the track's racing office.
Further details were not immediately available. The 5-year-old Ventura, a multiple grade winner, was 5-2 on the morning line. Frankel still has Storm Military in the Shoemaker field, which was reduced to seven by Ventura's defection.
The Frankel barn reported later that Ventura does not have a foot problem. According to his assistant, Ventura was withdrawn because she was acting quieter than usual and they decided to be on the safe side.
