(Edited William Inglis & Son press release)
Group II-winning stallion Written Tycoon will return to Eliza Park this breeding season after being sold for Aust$625,000 (approximately $481,775 in U.S. funds) May 20 during the third session of the William Inglis & Son Melbourne Great Southern mixed auction in Australia. Offered to dissolve a partnership, the son of Iglesia was knocked down to David O'Callaghan, who purchased him on behalf of Eliza Park and a number of other existing clients. There was competition from both overseas and from Queensland for the 6-year-old horse, which has covered books of 118 and 87 mares in his two seasons at stud.
The results for the session included a gross of Aust$1,682,200 ($1,296,707) for the 172 horses sold. The average price was Aust$9,780 ($7,539), and the median price was Aust$2,250 ($1,734). The clearance rate was 82%.
Group II South Australian Oaks winner Dream The Dream (by Encosta de Lago), who is in foal to God’s Own, was the highest-priced broodmare sold, bringing Aust$100,000 ($77,084) from Bell View Park Stud.
