According to agent Roger Sutton, jockey Mike Luzzi faces from six to eight weeks recovery from a broken left ankle he suffered in the gate prior to the start of the third race on July 15. Luzzi, who was released from North Shore Hospital earlier today, suffered the injury when his mount, Gold N Fancy, flipped in the gate.

Sutton said a plate and three screws were put in Luzzi's ankle to help the healing process.

"At first, we thought it would be four to six weeks," Sutton said. "Then, it looked like it would be a few months. But after the surgery, Dr. (Steve) O'Brien said it was more like six to eight weeks, depending on Mike's rehab."

Luzzi, the Eclipse Award-winning apprentice of 1989, entered last Sunday's card with a record 23-26-24 from 203 mounts and earnings in excess of $1 million to rank seventh in Belmont Park's spring/summer meet.
