If the forecast is accurate, winner Mine That Bird and other horses that competed in the May 2 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) may face a similar off track in the May 16 Preakness Stakes (gr. I).

While there was no rain during the race card on Derby Day at Churchill Downs, there was considerable precipitation during the days leading up to the classic and the race was run on a sealed track labeled sloppy.

According to http://www.weather.com, there is a 50% chance of precipitation Thursday, including thunderstorms in the evening and overnight showers. Winds are predicted to be strong, from 15 to 20 miles per hour.

On Friday, there is a 40% chance of rain, with a high temperature of 76 degrees. Overnight Friday, showers are forecast early but decreasing leading into Saturday, again with a 40% chance of rain.

For the Preakness card, scattered thunderstorms are forecast, with highs in the low 80s.
