A full brother to two-time reigning Horse of the Year Curlin   was born April 29 at Issam Fares' Fares Farm near Lexington.

The colt, by Smart Strike   out of the Deputy Minister mare Sherriff’s Deputy, was foaled at the same farm as his famous older brother. The similarities in their quality are easy to see, according to farm manager Shannon White.

"We’re delighted to have him; he is truly a gift," said White. "He’s a little taller than Curlin but with the same great body."

Last year, Curlin became the richest Thoroughbred of all-time in North America, retiring at the end of his 4-year-old campaign with career earnings totaling $10,501,800 for Jess Jackson’s Stonestreet Stables. He won seven grade I races: the Preakness Stakes, Breeders’ Cup Classic - Powered by Dodge, Emirates Airline Dubai World Cup, back-to-back runnings of the Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes, Woodward Stakes, and the Stephen Foster Handicap.

Curlin is standing his first season at stud for $75,000 at William S. Farish's Lane’s End Farm near Versailles, Ky.
