A Songandaprayer colt worked a quarter mile in :21, turning in the fastest time for the distance May 7 at Fairplex Park in Southern California during the under tack show for the Barretts May sale of 2-year-olds in training.

Consigned by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds, the colt is out of the 9-year-old stakes-winning Captain Bodgit mare Lateithappencaptain. He is a $100,000 graduate of last year’s Keeneland September yearling auction and a $42,000 graduate of the 2007 Keeneland November breeding stock sale.

Colts by Sky Mesa and Five Star Day were the quickest at an eighth of a mile, each posting a time of :9 4/5.

Consigned by Hartley/De Renzo, the Sky Mesa colt was produced from the 11-year-old winning Silver Deputy mare Mettle, who is a full sister to Japanese stakes winner Atago Taisho. The colt is a $100,000 graduate of the 2008 Keeneland September auction.

The Five Star Day colt is in the McKee Bloodstock consignment. Out of the 19-year-old winning Geiger Counter mare Play Date, he is a full brother to the winner Sabatini, who finished second in the Santa Ysabel Stakes (gr. III) and third in the Hollywood Starlet Stakes (gr. I). Bred by in Kentucky by Tim Thornton, Meg Buckley, and Mike Buckley, the colt was a $9,000 buy-back at the 2007 Keeneland November auction and a $19,000 buy-back at the 2008 Barretts January mixed sale.

The second session of the Barretts May sale’s under tack show is scheduled for May 8, beginning at 10 a.m. (PDT). The auction will be held May 11, starting at 1 p.m.
