A colt by Sky Mesa   and a colt by Five Star Day   each worked an eighth of a mile in 9 4/5 May 7, the fastest times at the first preview day for the May 11 Barretts sale of 2-year-olds in training in California.

Half the catalog worked May 7 and the other half will work May 8.

Consigned by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds, agent, the Sky Mesa   colt is out of the winning Silver Deputy colt Mettle. The colt was sold by Monticule at the 2008 Keeneland September sale for $100,000 to DWF. He was consigned to the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s March auction by Hartley/De Renzo but was withdrawn.

The Five Star Day   colt is consigned by McKee Bloodstock. He is out of the Geiger Counter mare Play Date and is a full brother to multiple graded stakes-placed Sabitini. The colt has been bought back twice previously at auction. He was consigned to the 2007 Keeneland November sale by Threave Main Stud as agent and was a $9,000 RNA. Earlier this year, at the Barretts January sale, he was consigned by McKee Bloodstock, agent, and bought back for $19,000.
