Citronnade, a homebred grade I winner for Frank Stronach’s Stronach Stables, was euthanized April 1 following colic surgery. On March 1, the 6-year-old daughter of Lemon Drop Kid   delivered her first foal, a stillborn offspring by Ghostzapper  , who stands at Stronach’s Adena Springs near Paris, Ky.

Bred in the Adena Springs’ name, Citronnade was one of the top turf mares of 2007 at 4. Based on the West Coast with trainer Bobby Frankel, she won the Gamely Stakes (gr. IT) and the Dahlia (gr. IIT), Beverly Hills (gr. IIT), San Gorgonio (gr. IIT), and Santa Ana (gr. IIT) Handicaps. She ran second in the Yellow Ribbon Stakes (gr. IT).

Citronnade retired with nine wins and three seconds from 14 starts and earnings of $864,205.  At 3, she was a stakes winner at Hollywood Park and Belmont Park.

Citronnade was a half-sister to Canadian champions Poetically and Primaly and to graded stakes winner Whiskey Wisdom. Citronnade’s dam, stakes winner Primarily (by Lord At War), was voted 2000 Canadian Broodmare of the Year.
