Sea The Stars drew away from favorite Delegator in the final sprint to win the English Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) at Newmarket on May 2.

Jockey Mick Kinane earned his fourth victory in the opening classic of the English season.

Sea The Stars, an 8-1 shot, was close up for most of the one-mile straight. He made his move on the stands side of the 15-horse field in the final furlong to collar Delegator, who hit the front earlier with Jamie Spencer aboard.

Sea The Stars edged away from Delegator, a doubtful starter because of the firm going, and won by 1 1/2 lengths.

Bookmakers immediately installed the 3-year-old Irish-bred Cape Cross colt as favorite for next month's English Derby (Eng-I) at Epsom.

The John Oxx-conditioned Sea The Stars, a half-brother to Derby winner Galileo, was last seen winning the Beresford Stakes (Ire-II) at the Curragh in September.

Gan Amhras finished third and the fast-finishing Rip Van Winkle took fourth. The final time on good to firm going was 1:35.88.
