Texas stallions Grande’s Grandslam and Serazzo died in April. Their foals are 2-year-olds.
Eight-year-old Grande’s Grandslam (Grand Slam—Grande Armee, by Dayjur) died April 9 at John Lusk’s Lusk Ranch near Bowie in a wild fire that also killed 10 horses in training and destroyed barns and equipment.
Grande’s Grandslam won or placed in seven of 13 races and earned $91,377.
Serazzo, a 13-year-old son of Kris S. out of the Ups mare La Chaposa, was euthanized April 18 after suffering a hip injury. He stood at Jeanne Ann Stasny’s Blossom Racing Stable near Decatur.
Serazzo won or placed in 19 of 38 races and earned $304,748. He was full brother to grade I winner You and I and a half-brother to grade I winner Chaposa Springs.
