(Edited William Inglis & Son press release)

The group I-winning mare La Montagna topped the second session of the William Inglis & Son Easter broodmare sale,  bringing Aust$475,000 (approximately $345,914 in U.S. funds) during the auction’s second session April 15 in Australia.

The figures for the first two sessions combined were a gross of Aust$14,546,500 ($10, 593,343) for the 282 horses sold. The average price was Aust$51,583 ($37,565), and the median price was Aust$22,000 ($16,021). The clearance rate was 75%.

La Montagna, winner of the 2006 QTC Stradbroke Handicap (Aust-I), was knocked down to Nathan Tinkler’s Patinack Farm. Consigned by the Millennial Partnership, the 7-year-old daughter of Monashee Mountain is in foal to Haradasun.

Patinack has been the biggest spender at the auction so far, paying Aust$1,745,000 ($1,270,779) for five mares.

"There has been a good spread of Australasian buyers, including a number of clients from Western Australia and New Zealand who have travelled to Sydney," said Inglis managing director Mark Webster. “Additionally, it's great to have the emerging markets of Korea and the Philippines represented, along with other international buyers from Hong Kong, Ireland, the U.K. (United Kingdom), and North America."

The sale’s third and final session is scheduled for April 15.
