I Want Revenge, winner of the Wood Memorial Stakes (gr. I) April 4 at Aqueduct, arrived at Churchill Downs April 7 to begin his training up to the May 2 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).
The Jeff Mullins trainee seemed relaxed and in good health as he strolled the shedrow in Barn 24, settling in after an uneventful van ride from New York to Louisville. He will go to the track April 8 for his first trip over the Churchill surface.
“He appears to have shipped great and should go to the track (April 8),” said Nick Sallusto, bloodstock agent for co-owner IEAH Stables. “Right now, everything looks good.”
The 3-year-old Stephen Got Even colt, also owned by breeder David Lanzman, got to the track at about 5:45 a.m. EDT. He was the second potential Derby contender to ship to Churchill, following Illinois Derby (gr. II) winner Musket Man’s April 5 arrival.
I Want Revenge is expected to be one of the favorites to win the Derby, along with Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) winner Pioneerof the Nile and Florida Derby (gr. I) winner Quality Road . Pioneerof the Nile is scheduled to arrive at Churchill April 14.
