Ridden in TheStars, dam of 2005 TVG Breeders’ Cup Sprint (gr. I) winner Silver Train  , was found dead in her paddock at Joe Mulholland Sr.’s Mulholland Farm near Georgetown, Ky. The 16-year-old mare was in foal to Bluegrass Cat and was due in 20 days. Her youngest foal, a Bernardini   filly, became a year old Valentine’s Day.

Mulholland Farm bought Ridden in Thestars for $90,000 at the 1998 Keeneland November breeding stock sale from Nursery Place, agent. She was in foal to Cryptoclearance.

Ridden in Thestars, who was twice stakes-placed in New York, produced six named foals, four of which have won. Silver Train, by Old Trieste, also captured the Metropolitan (gr. I), Jerome (gr. II), and Tom Fool (gr. II) Handicaps. He stands at stud at Tom Simon’s Vinery near Lexington.

Ridden in Thestars (Cormorant--Shelter Strait, by Far North) was bred in New York by Francis Paolangeli and raced most her career for him. She won or placed in 18 of 34 races and earned $178,998.

Joe Mulholland plans to sell the Bernardini filly at the Keeneland September yearling sale.
