Jockey Anisete Leon, a veteran jockey from the Dominican Republic, recorded his first U.S. victory March 18 at Golden Gate Fields when he guided Archie T to a three-length victory in the sixth race.

Leon, 33, began riding at age 16 in the Dominican Republic. He went on to ride in Italy and, most recently, Puerto Rico. Leon arrived in Northern California earlier this month and his business is being handled by veteran agent Steve Steamer.

Archie T was Leon's seventh mount at Golden Gate Fields and the 3-year-old gelding paid $25.60 after being dismissed at 11.80-to-1 in the wagering. Archie T is trained by Jerry Weaver.

Leon is scheduled to ride two horses Thursday. He has the call on Sword Beach (10-to-1 on the morning line) in the fifth race and Cowboy Heart (9-to-2) in the seventh.
