Michael Tabor and Mrs. John Magnier's Mozart beat older horses when he rolled to a 3 1/2-length triumph in Newmarket's Darley July Cup (Eng-I) on Thursday. Ridden by Mick Kinane for trainer Aidan O'Brien, the 3-year-old son of Danehill--Victoria Cross (by Spectacular Bid) completed the six furlongs in a quick 1:09.86 over a course rated good.

Finishing second behind the winning 4-1 favorite was Cassandra Go, a 5-year-old in-foal daughter of Indian Ridge, followed by Misraah (by Lure).

The July Cup was the fourth victory in eight starts for Mozart, whose previous best was win in the Jersey Stakes (Eng-I). The irish-bred colt has also finished second in the Entenmanns Irish Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I) and was third in the Desert King EBF Tetrarch Stakes (Ire-III) and Leopardstown Two Thousand Guineas Trial.

Irish agent Demi O'Byrne bought Mozart on behalf of Tabor and Magnier for 340,000 guineas at the 1999 Houghton Yearling Sale conducted by Tattersalls. The July Cup runner-up and third-place finisher were also Houghton sale graduates.
