Arlington Park has reassigned clerk of scales Conrad Enrique to paddock and placing judge duties after a surprise spot check discovered jockeys preparing to ride at higher-than-announced weights.

A surprise inspection by stewards before last Saturday's Hanshin Handicap at Arlington found several jockeys tipping the scales at 2 to 5 pounds more than their announced weights.

In a brief written statement, Arlington CEO Scott Mordell said track officials "do not believe that our employees acted improperly." He said the change in personnel was being effected "to alleviate any potentially adverse perceptions."

The overweights were reported on Arlington's video feed about 13 minutes before post time, and announced live by John Dooley several minutes before post time. The riders were fined $100 each, and Enrique was not penalized.

Assistant racing secretary Jack Bubolz will assume Enrique's job.
