The William Inglis & Son Melbourne March mixed sale opened at Oaklands in Australia March 12, and the Woodman mare Light Of Day topped the first session when she brought Aust$45,000 (approximately $29,107 in U.S. funds).

A winner of five races in Melbourne, Light Of Day was sold to Queensland's Heinrich Bloodstock while in foal to the young Swettenham Stud stallion Hold That Tiger.

In all, 156 horses were sold for a gross of Aust$634,600 ($410,466). The average price was Aust$4,068 ($2,631), and the clearance rate was 85%.

Not only were Victorian buyers active, but there was also good competition from most other states of Australia and even the Philippines.
