(Edited Magic Millions press release)

It was a buyers’ market during the first session of the 2009 BMW Magic Millions yearling sale at Morphettville in Australia March 9.

The 76 horses that sold grossed Aust$1,419,000 (approximately $908,997 in U.S. funds) and averaged Aust$18,671 ($11,960).

"This sale has always been renowned for producing high quality gallopers at bargain prices," said Magic Millions managing director David Chester. "Tonight, the prices were lower than we would have hoped, but that certainly keeps our buyers happy. It was tough going throughout the night -- this has been the trend around the world this year with the current economic situation. I am hoping that the clearance rate tonight of 63% picks up tomorrow."

A Reset – Exitant colt brought the top price of Aust$105,000 ($67,262). Offered by Mill Park Stud the colt was purchased by Mark Kavanagh, who has had great success buying yearlings from the Morphettville ring. Kavanagh’s purchases have included the group I winners Divine Madonna, Devil Moon, Hard to Get, and Undoubtedly.
