Mike Mulligan, whose Leprechaun Racing sold the second-highest priced horse at the Fasig-Tipton Florida select sale of 2-year-olds in training March 3, was in the intensive care unit at Memorial General Hospital in Hollywood, Fla., the following day as a result of injuries he suffered in a fall.

Terence Collier, director of marketing for Fasig-Tipton, said Mulligan passed out and hit his head while waiting for a table at a restaurant following the auction. Collier said March 4 that Mulligan was in stable condition after undergoing surgery and that all signs were positive. He added that Mulligan's wife, Britt, also a partner in Leprechaun Racing, was at the hospital with her husband.

"They are hoping for the best," Collier said.

At the sale, a colt named Cornerstone from Leprechaun's consignment was purchased by agent John Ferguson for $1.1 million. The son of Unbridled's Song-Amazing Buy had been purchased for $275,000 at the 2008 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select yearling sale.

Mulligan is the president of the National Association of Two-Year-Old Consignors, an organization that promotes the juvenile sale market. He and his wife live in Ocala, Fla., where they operate a training center.
