Capricha, a half-sister to grade III winner Aly's Alley, brought the top price of $240,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training and older horses of racing age on Tuesday in Timonium, Md. Produced from the unraced Alydar mare Aly Capri, the Pleasant Colony filly was purchased by William Marquard's Eaglestone Farm from Bill Reightler, agent. Eaglestone Farm bred Capricha in partnership with Betty Evans.

The only other six-figure price was brought by an Unbridled's Song--Highland Vixen colt. Consigned by Eisaman Equine, agent, he was purchased by trainer Stanley Hough, agent.

In all, 91 horses were sold for a gross of $1,701,500 and an average price of $18,698. The gross and average were up by 29.3% and 30.7%, respectively from a year ago. The buy-back rate was 18.0%, with 20 of the 111 horses offered failing to find new homes.

In 2000, the 92 horses sold grossed $1,315,900 and averaged $14,303. The buy-back rate was 17.9%.
