(Edited news release)
The California Fall Yearling Sale has been reconfigured and will now be called the California Cup Yearling Sale, it was announced Feb. 18. The catalog will be open to all yearlings and not restricted to California-breds.
Starting this year, the sale will be held on the Monday and/or Tuesday immediately following the California Cup at Oak Tree and will be co-sponsored by Barretts and the California Thoroughbreds Breeders Association (the Barretts Web-site lists the 2009 sale date as Oct. 6).
The sale date will always be held directly after the Cal Cup in subsequent years. If the quality and numbers dictate, the sale may be expanded to two days. The first day or evening session will feature the higher-ranked yearlings but they will not be classified as "selected" but simply as horses selling on the first day.
All horses will be in one catalog and stabled together.
The deadline for nomination is April 10. The nomination fee is $50 per yearling. Horses will be screened on pedigree prior to physical inspection. Inspections will be conducted in May and June. Marketability will be determined based on pedigree and/or physical evaluation.
The nomination form will be on-line by March 1 and mailed shortly thereafter.
