Grade-I winner Zaftig has joined the broodmare band of Hill 'n' Dale.

Grade-I winner Zaftig has joined the broodmare band of Hill 'n' Dale, the Lexington-area farm announced Feb. 17.

Zaftig, who is by Gone West-Zoftig, by Cozzene, won the 2008 Acorn Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont, before closing her career with a third-place effort in the Sentient Flight Group Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (gr. I).

Racing for John and Susan Moore, the 4-year-old filly finished with a record of 3-0-1 in six starts and $408,700 in earnings. Bred in Kentucky by Top Notch Farms, Zaftig was retired in November due to a torn suspensory ligament.

John G. Sikura, president of Hill 'n' Dale Farms, said in a statement that his operation was looking to replenish its broodmare band after the recent sale of some mares, including its interest in Better Than Honour, who sold for a record $14 million during the Fasig-Tipton November select mixed sale

“Her world-class pedigree indicates she has the capability of throwing any caliber of runner on dirt or turf going short or long,” Sikura said of Zaftig.

Mating plans were not announced.
