Saturday's total handle of $8,141,705 on Calder Race Course's 12-race Summit of Speed card, which featured over $1-million in purses on sprint races, broke Calder's previous handle record of $7,626,472. Saturday's card also generated a record handle of $6,353,762 at inter-state wagering (ISW) facilities. The previous ISW record of $5,327,269 was set on the 1998 Festival of the Sun card, which also produced the previous total handle record.
A $100,000 guaranteed national pick four was offered for the first time Saturday, linking four stakes races on the card. Over $280,000 was wagered on the pick four. The winning combination of 11-1 Miners Gamble, 3-5 Caller One, 6-5 Swept Away, and 3-1 Hurricane Bertie returned $277.60 for a $1 ticket.
