A Stratum – Beyond Me filly topped the opening session of the BMW Magic Millions Perth yearling sale Feb. 11 in Australia. West Australia-based owner Sally Martin purchased the filly from Gervase Park Stud for Aust$160,000 (approximately $106,854 in U.S. funds).
The filly was one of three yearlings to sell for Aust$100,000 ($66,784) or more during a session for which only 90 horses were cataloged. The 58 yearlings that sold grossed Aust$2,328,500 and averaged Aust$40,147. The clearance rate from the 83 horses offered was 70%.
Compared to last year, when 96 yearlings were sold, the gross revenue dropped 52.8% from Aust$4,931,000 while the average fell 21.8% from Aust$51,365.
"The smart buyers are here -- locals, interstaters and plenty from overseas. They are getting exceptional value,” said Magic Millions managing director David Chester. "This is without doubt the best line up of yearlings I have seen in Perth and to get them at this year's prices is a great result for buyers. As was the case with the Conrad Jupiters yearling sale at the Gold Coast in January, there were a number of yearlings that far exceeded their reserve price when fought over by a number of bidders."
