A group of commercial breeders have combined to form a new public sales agency, Select Sales LLC, which plans to offer its first consignment at this year’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky select yearling sale in July.
Select Sales, in a Feb. 8 release, said it will sell stock from its own farms and also outside breeders.
Select Sales will be managed by Andrew Cary, also vice president of Thoroughbred Futures Racing LLC, a racing syndicate that was established in December 2008. He previously was sales director at Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency from 2006-08, and prior to that was assistant director of public sales at Taylor Made Farm.
One of the principals of Select Sales is Machmer Hall Thoroughbreds, owned by Dr. Sandra Willwerth and Carrie and Craig Brogden. Past grade 1-winning graduates of Machmer Hall include Premium Tap, Meadow Breeze, and Black Seventeen. Promising 3-year-olds this year include Flat Out, Loch Dubh, and More Than Willing.
“With the current economic climate, commercial breeders are seeking ways to reduce costs, and the group behind Select Sales felt that consolidating into one consignor offers economies of scale and increased control and flexibility with their product,” Cary said in a statement. “I am extremely grateful to Hill ‘n’ Dale and Taylor Made for the guidance and opportunities they gave me in the past, and look forward to a challenging and promising future with Select Sales.”
