(Edited William Inglis & Son press release)
William Inglis & Son’s Sydney Classic yearling sale opened Feb. 8 in Australia with a session in which 83 horses sold for a gross of Aust$2,104,500 (approximately $1,421,022 in U.S. funds). The average price was Aust$25,355 ($17,121), and the median price was Aust$20,000 ($13,505). The clearance rate was 78%.
“In percentage terms, it’s ahead of other sales we’ve seen so far this year, and the buyers are very happy with the value they are getting from this sale, which continually yields results on the track,” said Inglis managing director Mark Webster.
Widden Stud sold the day’s highest-priced yearling, a chestnut colt by Flying Spur out of the Lujain mare Cloudwing. Patinack Farm purchased the session topper for Aust$80,000 ($54,018).
