Arnold Zetcher has been appointed to the board of directors of the Thoroughbred Owners of California.
The appointment, to fill an earlier vacancy, became effective Feb. 3.
Zetcher, who bought his first racehorse in 2000, has campaigned several stakes winners, including Tizzy’s Tune, House of Fortune, and Fairly Ransom. He currently has 16 horses in training, in addition to several in partnerships, and a small band of broodmares and young horses.
A native of St. Louis, Zetcher is the retired chairman and CEO of Talbots, a chain of upscale women’s clothing stores, and is currently the chairman of the National Retail Federation Foundation. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife of 26 years, Ellen.
“His extensive business acumen, great enthusiasm for the sport, and willingness to contribute his time and energy to serve our membership make him a welcome addition,” said Marsha Naify, the TOC board's chair.
“I have been a fan for more than 30 years,” said Zetcher. “And it is very exciting to have the opportunity to be part of an organization like the TOC and maybe make a contribution to the future of horse racing in California.”
TOC is the official organization of Thoroughbred owners in the state. It represents, advances, and protects owners’ interests and rights in legislative, administrative and business matters.
