Surface Woes Halt Racing at Beulah Park

Poor track conditions led Beulah Park near Columbus, Ohio, to cancel the second through ninth races Feb. 2-3, and the full card Feb. 4.

On Feb. 2 in a $2,500 claiming test with a six-horse field, 3-2 favorite Sheschocolatefudge gave up the early lead, broke down, and was taken off the track by van, according to the official charts. In the same race, Hwy Sixty One “slipped and fell,” the chart said.

On Feb. 3 in a $3,500 claimer with five horses, Sempre Blumin was eased and removed from the track by van.

Beulah Park has lost several programs since the winter/spring meet began Jan. 10 because of weather and track conditions. The racing surface was said to have been renovated after the fall meet ended in late December.

Beulah Park races Fridays through Wednesdays. Racing is expected to resume Feb. 6, officials said.
