Point Given had his first breeze on Saturday since his dominating performance in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I) last month. With the Bob Baffert stable's top exercise rider, Dana Barnes, in the saddle, the son of Thunder Gulch went a half-mile at Santa Anita Park in :47 3/5, according to clockers, though Baffert timed Point Given in :48 1/5.
"It was a good work, but he was blowing at the end," Baffert said. "He needed this."
Just a few days ago, Baffert said he would work Point Given sometime in the next week, but he opted to breeze the colt sooner rather than later.
Still, the trainer said he hasn't decided on when the Preakness and Belmont winner will make his next start. Possibilities include the Haskell Invitational Handicap (gr. I) at Monmouth Park on Aug. 5 or the Travers Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga three weeks later.
