A Pentire colt out of the winning Zabeel mare Surreal brought the top price of NZ$175,000 (approximately $92,802 in U.S. funds) during the second session of New Zealand Bloodstock’s select yearling sale in Karaka Jan. 29. Dean Hawthorne purchased the colt from Rich Hill Thoroughbreds.
Through the first two days of the auction, 301 horses have been sold for a gross of NZ$11,406,000 ($6,048,602) and an average of NZ$37,894 ($20,095). The median price is NZ$30,000 ($15,909).
The sale’s third and final session is scheduled for Jan. 30.
