from the Horse Racing Radio Network
The Horse Racing Radio Network has reached an agreement with Markel Insurance Co. to be the title sponsor of its “Road to the Kentucky Derby” series of broadcasts beginning Jan. 30 from South Florida.
The series will include eight live broadcasts from Gulfstream Park, Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, Turfway Park, and Keeneland. It will showcase major Kentucky Derby (gr. I) preps including the Hutcheson Stakes (gr. II), Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II), Louisiana Derby (gr. II), Lanes End Stakes (gr. II), Florida Derby (gr. I), and Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I).
“Markel is a great fit with our HRRN broadcasts,” HRRN president Mike Penna said. “They have a team with extensive knowledge of the Thoroughbred racing and breeding industry, and we look forward to working with them.”
The Lexington office of Markel has been established to primarily target insurance needs in the Thoroughbred industry, and to work closely with specialist agents.
The 2009 HRRN schedule begins with live coverage of the Hutcheson from Gulfstream Jan. 30. HRRN will cover about 100 stakes this year, 33 of them grade I.
The broadcasts can be heard on various affiliates throughout the country, and worldwide with live streaming on the HRRN Web site, www.horseracingradio.net. A complete Road to the Kentucky Derby schedule along with broadcast times and station listings can be found online.
