Veteran horseman Donald Kielty died Jan. 17 in Ocala, Fla., after battling cancer. He was 67.

Kielty, who owned Great Luck Farm near Ocala, trained seven stakes winners, including four that he bred and/or raced in his name or in the farm name. They included homebreds My County Girl and Hold On Smokey, who was a stakes winner at Suffolk Downs in 2008.

Kielty also raced Darn Special, who was a stakes winner from 1993-97. Darn Special won eight stakes at Suffolk and Rockingham Park.

Kielty’s survivors include his wife of 44 years, Joyce, and sons Ronald and Brian.
